It seems that the Bermudian KETCHS are sailing much better in this Transatlantic Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup!!!
Nariida, a Wally 105 designed in 1994 by Luca Brenta, has taken the head of the fleet from Santa Cruz and choosing the Northest path in the Atlantic Ocean, is almost close (700 miles) to the Netherlands Island of Sint Maarten. Incredible! but true...
The other Ketch that is trying to beat it is the Farr 115, SOJANA, launched in the 2003 and owned by the very well known Mr. Peter Harrison. But ... no chance until now.
NARIIDA, the oldest and beautiful maxi is crossing the Ocean like a butterfly passing through sweet winds in the beginning and swimming into the rain and squalls right now. On board might be an Italian psychologist of Turin (like me) and of course the atmosphere must be happy and content. I think so.
So, let see what will be the news in the next days. In Palapa Marina the friends of the "Soggy Dollar" for sure are waiting preparing glasses of fresh bier. And all around the little, warm restaurants are thinking for a nice menu to restore the sailors at theyr arrival... We can smell the perfumes.
See you soon, Mau

Hi to Everybody! With 10 knots of wind the TMYRC has started! From Santa Cruz de Tenerife to Simpson Bay, Sint Maarten, Netherlands Antilles. The Wonderful Maxi Yachts are 7. It's enough to give passion and emotions to the First Transatlantic Maxi Yachts ever organised. After the long travel the peace of Caribbean Islands. With sun all year long, sweet temperatures, and the most multicultural Island of that part of the World. Over 85 different cultures in a Island that has the specificity of the Con division of the Space and of the Land. After centuries of wars between Spain, France, England, Holland the Island was divided in two parts: one is under France influence and the other under Netherlands. And they are able to live all in peace. The France part has the elegant Marigot as capital; the Hollanders has Philippsburg. In the France part seems to be in Saint Tropez: boutiques, crepes and all what you like of France. In Philippsburg you can buy the most innovative technologies (Boolchans is my favourite place) at light price. The waters colours are just incredible and you can have almost all you like and need in this thin Island. Isolated beaches and Casinos, Gucci and Dior and all the other great names of Fashion; Sony and Canon and Nikon. Little romantic restaurants and bar plages fascinating and very updates. Simpson Bay is a large "lake" into the Island that is able to connect many of the important places of the Island (not Phillisburg that is on the coast). There is a Bridge to enter in the Bay and the Sint Maarten Yacht Club is in the entrance of the Bay so... they are there to say HELLO! to every boat is entering (it seems to come back home!).
